And the winner is…

The winner of our Polo Selecta competition is Marc Addison. We really liked the overall clean look of his car, and the complimentary colour way. Here is what he had to say bout his build.

I chose to keep the car as original as possible and kept the original tail lights as well as the RX decal on the side as is was periodic as well as complimented the color scheme which was the Miami blue and black and blended well with the racy theme.

The wheels I chose were the Porsche cookie cutter design as the angular design of the wheels blended nicely with the angular design of the polo and the fact that it was from the earlier Porsche 911 s .I chose to color them black to compliment the RX decal as well as the overall color scheme as the bumpers and front spoiler are black as well

I chose the front spoiler as I was going for a race look and the moon roof to give it an air-cooled feel.

I chose to set the suspension so that the polo has a bit of a forward rake (if that’s what it’s called) to emphasize the lines of the car and to make it look sportier

The aerial I chose because it was reminiscent of earlier vws because of it being upright on the fender but shorter than the telescopic once again to blend in with the sporty feel

The color I chose because it went well with black as well as being one of the more uncommon old school vw colors

Polo Setecta Finalists

The comp has now officially closed and here are the finalists. We had 47 entries into the comp so thaks to everyone who entered! We have narrowed it down to about 20 cars and the winner will be announced later this week. For now here is a selection of the entries.

Aldo’s Sport truck progress

Aldo is making some good progress on his caddy. Based on what his plans are this is going to be an epic build! Here is a sneak peek at some of the paint detail on this bad boy. I cant wait to see this one finished up and in the flesh.

Our friend Milan

Our buddy Milan isn’t a member of the HC, and in fact he doesn’t even like VW’s very much. He is however an absolute animal with a few drinks down his neck, and backs up those skills by being a fireman as well. Here is a little video of him from a while ago where he combines all of the above skills. This has nothing to do with modding VW’s by the way… Other then the fact that he fly kicks the windows out of a Variant square back.

HC polo selecta competition

So I saw this on the VWCSA forum and thought it was too good not to pass up. So in the spirit of this rad site we are going to be holding a Highway Collective “Polo Selecta” contest. The rules are simple, go to the POLO SELECTA SITE and design your custom Polo. Mail the pic of your car to info@highwaycollective.com with a short explanation as to why you did what mods (No explanation = no chance of winning). We will go through all the cars and the one we think is best will win a hamper of HC goodies!

The contest runs until the end of Feb! So get modding and send us your cars!

Highway Collective in the UK

From March the Highway Collective will be moving its HQ over to the UK. We are hoping to have the online store fully operational from April, and from there we will be able to ship products all over the world. Being based there will create a lot of opportunities for us, and we are looking forward to being able to sell our shirts all over the world. Our products will still be available in SA, so nothing will change on that front. We also heard that PayPal will soon be available in SA (only limited transactions are currently allowed) which will also open up a lot of doors for us locally. Stay tuned for more!

SOLD!

Jon has now sold his caddy and if looking for ideas on a new project once he gets to the UK. Nothing is certain yet but its seems the letters MK and the number 4 are being used quite frequently in conversation. We will have to see what happens… Perhaps a trip to UD10 will provide the necessary inspiration to get the project going! Updates soon.

Aldo is at it again…

So Aldo from Maldino Customs cant seem to keep his hands off a caddy for very long. He seems to always have one tucked away some place, and now he is working on another one. He has got his hands on a real gem this time and is working his magic on it as we speak. Check out his thread on the Tex HERE to see what he gets up to.

Stuart Grants Rocco

Our buddy Stuart owns one of the cleanest examples of a Mk1 Scirocco we have seen, and he recently sent through some updated pic of it. Despite being a very clean example he isn’t afraid to give it horns. here is what he had to say about the car.

“Some pics of my Scirocco at the Kyalami 9-Hour Retro (5 Dec). I lent it to Mark Smyth of Business Day, he raced it in 2 x 10 lap sprints and a 1-Hour. A bit of body roll but a blast!!!

Car is standard – except for some H&R Springs, 14-Inch wheels, slightly warmed cam and a bolt in roll cage – i still drive it daily but will race it at Zwartkops on 30 January and then take part in the Historic Racing Car championship through the year (www.historicracing.co.za). There are about five other Sciroccos racing – mine being the most standard, then varying ‘hotness’ up to a seriously quick Jegermeister replica (complete with flared arches, slick etc.)”
